Chan Mong-Gut is a famous Chinese lawyer. His fool student Foon, accidentally, is suspected to be a murder when he's in Hong Kong chasing his love, so Chan Mon-Gut and his wife have to travel to Hong Kong and defend for him. But Hong Kong is under British law, so the court here is totally differnet to Chinese traditional court that Chan is familiar to. Without any evidence, what all Chan has to protect his student is his leery mouth.
