In 1982 Amarillo, Texas, a 76-year-old nun is found raped and murdered. Johnny Frank Garrett, a slow-witted 17-year-old, then is executed for committing murder. He leaves behind a curse letter, promising vengeance for all those connected to his unfair trial.
